Description

A five-bay two-storey Georgian house, built c.1800, and former chapel, located to the north side of The Burn Road. The house is rectangular with two-storey canted former chapel (built c.1850) to east. Griffiths Valuation of 1859 records a house, office and land, occupied by the Rev George Johnston and leased from the Marquis of Donegall. The building was valued £20 initially then revised to £30 and later to £35 (although dates of revisions not known). Currently vacant and falling into ruin. The roof structure seems to be in fair condition, however the vegetation growth to the parapet is worrying and is causing water ingress in the building. Without intervention this will continue, and damage to the walling and overall structure will follow. Immediate action needed to preserve this house, which is of considerable architectural merit.
