Description

Detached two-storey multi-bay red-brick farm building, built 1857 and located on the Balloughry Road southwest of the city centre, on a steep slope that descends towards the River Foyle. It shares group value with Milltown House (HB01.12.008) to the north, with which it was formerly associated. It is likely that it was constructed by Samuel Law Crawford who was a significant landowner and solicitor in Derry at the time. There are clues to the buildings past in the numerous ventilation pipes and remaining gearing in the building where there was likely a threshing mill. This is a significant and extensive building with much oppurtunity for conversion or use as a vanue. However, there are signs of decay throughout. Despite this the owners see the potential that the building offers and have been maintaining the building while plans can be drawn up for its reuse.
