Description

A two-storey country house, built c.1805 in the Regency style, with symmetrical frontage arranged about a central entrance with full-height bowed outer bays. Rendered walls rising to a cornice and parapet. Entrance comprises Ionic in antis portico with entablature, accessed by nosed sandstone steps. Remaining windows are replacement uPVC on moulded Portland stone sills, and there is a Venetian stairwell window to rear. There is an extensive stable complex to north. Lissue House was built to designs by Thomas Jackson c.1805 for Robert Garrett Esq., with improvements made by the same architect in the 1830s and 1850s for Captain Robert Crawford, who is recorded as the owner in the Townland Valuations of 1828-40. The OS Memoirs include an extensive description of the house and demesne. It was later the residence of JN Richardson, associated with a linen manufacturing business of the same name. Later uses include a hospital and offices. The house was badly damaged in a fire in 2016.
