Description

Gosford Place is named for to the Second Earl of Gosford who was Governor General of Canada 1835-37. Originally built in 1837 and rebuilt in the 1960s. Two three- storey Flemish bond brick buildings overlooking The Mall with burnt stretchers. Door-cases have semi-engaged Tuscan columns set inside elliptical-headed opening. Flat window surrounds with soldier arched lintels (burnt headers) and stone cills. Windows are 6/6 sashes. This building is within Armagh Conservation Area. The overall building is in fair condition although timber windows are showing signs of decay. Planning permission was granted in 2021 for change of use from offices to 19 apartments, with associated alterations and extensions, demolition work, and associated site works., Ref LA08/2020/1296/F, Buildings of Armagh (1992) p.182
