Description

Described in 'The Follies and Garden Buildings of Ireland' by James Howley and Roberto D'Ussy as a "bizarre structure, which appears to have been erected to serve as a summer-house, has a front entirely constructed of bones. The front consists of a series of large piers from by setting thousands of femur-type ox or deer bones directly into lime mortar. The bones are laid with the length pointing inwards and the knuckle outwards, in horizontal courses, with a vertical arrangement on the corners to provide sharp arrises to the corners of the piers." p. 204. Overall this structure is in ruinous condition, and while there have been historic repairs carried out these have been in the most part been carried out in hard-cement mortar which has exacerbated the degradation of the structure.
