Exterior Description And Setting

A single-storey school with roughcast walls and slated hipped roof, laid out on an angled plan with the main entrance set in a classical-style pedimented and pilastered doorcase dated 1931; north wing retains small-paned timber windows but south wing has had plate-glass replacements in timber; plain wrought-iron boundary railings on low cement rendered walls to the roadway, of no special interest; later post-war extensions to the west and rear in red brick with flat roof. It stands alone in open countryside in a rural location, within a tarmac playground, facing the road and easily viewed from the road.

Evaluation

A building designed in an important office of the period but of insufficient architectural merit to be considered listable and its case further hampered by prominent additions of different material and form.
