Exterior Description And Setting

This building has been demolished and replaced by a new lighthouse Described in the first survey in 1970 as 'Lighthouse and ancillary buildings. The circular lighthouse base rises to a corbelled railed walkway around the housing. Main ancillary buildings are two-storey with rendered walls and flat roofs below parapets and moulded cornices. Sashed vertically devided windows are set in plain eaved surrounds, pedimented on the ground floor.

Appears on OS map of 1857. Built 1835-9 to designs of George Halpin, inspector of lighthouses. Tower demolished in 1976 following the completion of a new tower in 1975; ancillary buildings also replaced. The building was recorded as a monument, SMR no. ANT41:25. References - Primary 1.
