Exterior Description And Setting

Three-storey (+ attic) building, with decorative render detailing to façade, set in a terrace on west side of Hill Street. Roof is pitched and natural slated with a cement rendered chimney to each gable, and metal rain water goods to façade. At ground floor is shopfront and to left a door to upper floor offices, all encased in modern timber surround with pilasters, consoles and fascia. Central recess with separate doors serving two shop units. Wall over shop front on façade is painted render to first floor cill course and walls above are painted brick with applied render details. V-channelled quoins (not stepped) rise up each side of façade. Continuous Guilloche-cill course to second floor and a smooth render band below projecting eaves cornice. At first floor are three tall modern windows, each with two tall fixed panes with two small opening transoms over. Each has a decorative moulded architrave with swept foliated ends to cill level. Above each window is a consoled pediment; that to central window being segmental. To second floor are three openings, in line with those below but diminished in height, each with a 2/2 top-hung timber window. Each has a moulded architrave, with raised ears to each side of head, base and sides. Walls to rear elevation are rendered. Ground floor is abutted by a flat roofed, single storey extension (of no interest). Elevation is three bays wide. Between ground floor and first floor to right bay is a 6/6 sliding-sash landing window cill is level with extension roof. At first floor in central bay is a sheet metal escape door leading to rear roof. At ground floor left is a metal casement window. Between first and second floor to central bay is a 6/6 sliding-sash landing window. To second floor right is a 6/1 sliding-sash window (formerly 6/6), and to left bay is a 6/6 sliding sash and a small 2/2 sliding sash to its immediate right. Right gable is abutted by adjoining building. Left gable is abutted by a lower building and exposed section is rendered and blank.
