Exterior Description And Setting


A single-storey direct entry four bay thatched house with outbuildings to right gable, aligned E-W along the roadside. Thatched roof with wet-dashed chimney between bays 2 and 3 and cement-rendered skews. Principal elevation faces S. Walls are cement-dashed and painted. To left of bay 2 is a windbreak porch with modern t+g sheeted door; left and right cheeks are blank. To its right is a 2/2 sliding sash window with concrete cill. Each remaining bay has a similar detailed window. Left gable is blank. Rear elevation is abutted to right bay by modern extension accessed by narrow link. The exposed left and centre bay, each has a modern casement window. Extension has a pitched artificial slate roof, cement-dashed walls and modern casement windows with concrete cills. A glazed t+g sheeted door to W face of link. Right gable is abutted by a lower outbuilding; the exposed section is blank. Outbuildings have pitched corrugated-metal roofs and t+g doors.

A building is shown on this site on the 1834 / 35 OS map, but not recorded in the contemporary valuation. It is included in the second valuation of 1862, however, with Bernard Maguire listed as the occupant, John McClintock Esq the immediate lessor, and the rateable value a modest £1. Evaluation


A single story four bay direct entry thatched dwelling, which retains most of its original character despite minor internal refurbishments and extension to rear. On the first edition OS map, it is of at least early nineteenth century origin.

General Comments


According to the owner, the address was changed to: 11 Teer Road Teer Newtownbutler, Co. Fermanagh. BT92 6GT - some time ago so record needs updating 2024 05 23/JS
