Exterior Description And Setting


A 3 bay wide 2½ storey with basement, shop front and entrance to living accommodation over. At ground floor from left 4 panel door with rectangular fanlight to living accommodation. Large shop window simply divided in 6 panes, 4 panel door (top 2 glazed) to shop with rectangular fanlight. Another shopwindow divided as other. A long decorative name fascia over both doors and windows with reasonable painted lettering. On each side of doors and window thin pilasters. The name fascia has good cornice and decorative stopends. Over the 2nd shop window a very plain name fascia. At 1st floor 3 no. double hung sliding sash windows, evenly spaced and centred on the elevation with plain plaster architraves, keystone and bases. There aren’t individual cills but a continuous plain band across the façade. A deeper plain frieze band under metal gutter. Natural slated roof with 3 no. velux type rooflights. Wall smooth rendered, lined and painted. Plinth. The rear of the building has a 2 storey back return, single modern window at 1st floor. All rear walls roughcast rendered and painted. Roof natural slates with 2 no. velux type rooflights. No. 39 maintains the Ann St. building line with slightly lower roofline from No 37.
