Exterior Description And Setting


A former single-storey five bay harled house, now demolished and replaced with a modern two-storey brick house. The First Survey card records: A single-storey, five bay, harled and coloured house with slated roof and rendered chimneys. Sides are three bay. 3 (?) pane sashed windows (?) surmounted by recessed rectangular panels at attic level. The building extends to north in reduced height with lean-to roof at (?). Two bay segmental projections on west side, basement at rear. Fluted columned porch with three light conservatory extension. (?) (?) door surmounted by a semi-circular arched opening, (?) by a (?) pane fanlight. (?) (?) (?) (?) at outbuilding. Slate (?) (?) (?) (?) (?) West. History The house is thought to have been built for the O'gilly family who provided the agents for the (?) Company. Local tradition is that the house is built on the site of the ancient church of Kilcattan. (Church of St. (?) (?) - O'Kane) REV.F.W.FAWCETT (?) (?) RECTORY, CLAUDY. Date of visit: 22.05.1972
