Exterior Description And Setting

A former 2 classroom school built of redbrick having windows trimmed with a light coloured sandstone and all corners of the brickwork trimmed with similar sandstone quoins. The neat chamfered plinth is likewise finished in sandstone. Each classroom is lit by 4 round headed tall windows while the gable of the room fronting to the road has a much greater round headed window and on the short flanking wall a small round headed one so that each room is very well lit. In the gable of the other classroom 2 oculii punctuate the wall. A single chimney with 2 pots pierces the ridge of the slated roof, each room having one fireplace. The bold rhythm of the roundheaded window, the contrasting colours of the brick and sandstone make a lively architectural statement. The school was altered to a dwelling some 3 years ago when the residence was demolished and the extension erected to the rear to form a large new entrance hall. Care has been taken to use fenestration to match existing but sadly all the timber casements have been removed and substituted by uPVC. The adapted residence now forms part of a group of houses containing Lomond house and 2 new dwellings all now known as Cherryvale Park. The decorative bargeboards cannot be similar to the original, though there appears to be a penchant for wavy, curly barges in the district. A good attempt has been made to match the brickwork in the new work and one corner of sandstone quoins has been removed where the new brickwork abuts the old and reincorporated in the new corner..

Mid-Victorian 2 classroom school in red brick, converted to dwelling. Interior completely altered but location of windows etc remain.
