Exterior Description And Setting

Left one of a pair of similar, but much altered, two storey houses set back in a longer terrace. This property is three openings wide. Pitched artificial slate roof with tall cement rendered chimney on party wall between second and third openings and a second at right on rear pitch. Modern rainwater goods. Walls are painted wet dash. Front door at left on central bay is a modern panelled door. There is a window above and one to each floor on the other two bays. All are modern fixed lights with top hung transoms and deep cills. Small front area is enclosed by a dwarf wall which has been raised and rendered. Left and right gables form party walls with adjacent buildings. Rear elevation not inspected.

Historical Information

A house on this spot is described in the 1835 Valuation as measuring 30ft6int x 17ft x 8ft high. By 1863, it had become two storeys high. Whether the original house was raised, or a new one built is uncertain, but to all intents and purposes, the present house is of mid 19th C date. According to the 1863 Valuation book, it was “set furnished for summer months”. Primary sources: 1. First Valuation book, 1835 (PRONI, VAL/1B/367, p.103). 2.
