Exterior Description And Setting

A 3 storey 4 bay wide building with shopfront. Three storey four window bay terraced building with windows not evenly distributed along the façade. Shopfront to left hand side of ground floor. Two simple pilaster flank double paneled entrance door with two pane light over. Double glazed tripartite arrangement to one side in shopfront flanked by third pilaster. Marble stall raiser below. Three six over six double glazed sash windows over and another three aligning at end floor. Six over six sash of larger size than the rest to the left of the shopfront with two more windows matching the rest aligning above. Natural slated roof with cast aluminium gutter on projecting brackets. All windows are double glazed with glazing bars mounted in front of the glass. To the rear there is a wide 2 storey back return taking up most of the plot width. Ridge above eaves of main building. All windows vertical casement and two sides. One circular window to the rear of the main building. Roof natural slates, . ½ round gutters, single aluminium downpipe. Building observes building line of terrace. Is at the bottom end of Castle Street where it turns into The Diamond. Its roof line is level with nos 5 and 4 The Diamond.

This building probably dates from the early 19th cent. and possibly earlier and may be the substance of the original erected by Hugh Boyd in c 1740. Present owner purchased building in 1999, . McGirr architects renovated with U D G grant. Little of original historic fabric remains. Exterior details are not faithfull to the original. References Primary Sources 1. O.S. Evaluation

An imposing terrace house probably of mid 18th century origin, built in a Georgian manner, though lacking symmetry. It has been substantially renovated however and contains little historic fabric. Repacement items of exterior joinery are not faithful reproductions of the originals.
