Exterior Description And Setting

A single storey, three bay, direct entry stone built thatched house. The building faces north-east and lies at the end of a long lane that proceeds in a southern direction from the road that travels from Boho to Monea about a mile and a half from the former village. The building was thatched between cement skews but is now roofless. Of the two chimneys that over the kitchen hearth survives. The loss of the plaster finish reveals that the stonework was built to rough courses and that the extremities of the front elevation terminated in large cut stone quoins. The sheeted entrance door in a windbreak porch is now missing and the lean-to roof has fallen in. The openings that contained vertically sliding windows, one to the left (south-east) of the porch and two to the right now contain only vestiges of the woodwork. Sills are of traditional depths. There are two small window openings in the rear wall. A stone-built outbuilding with curved corrugated iron roof and timber sheeted door abuts the south-east gable of the house.

This house was built some time after 1857, as it is not shown on the OS map of that year. The building was first surveyed in 1975 and again in 1987, with no major changes having been carried out in the interim. The house was occupied at the time of the latter survey, but was reported as uninhabitable in 1994. Evaluation

A single storey three bay direct entry stone built thatched house. A former thatched building which has been substantially degraded due to lack of maintennance but which retains its plan , proportion and historic interest. It remains capable of restoration.
