Exterior Description And Setting


A 3 bay wide 2½ storey terrace public house. Frontage to North Street, central door with fanlight, 2 large windows on each side divided into 4 lights, 2 of which have top hung opening vents. At 1st floor 3 no. vertical 2 pane windows with top hung vents. Hanging signs between windows. Walls rendered in pebbledash ½ round metal gutter with single downpipe. Slight overhang. On the roof a large extended dormer almost the length of the building. The wide dormer has 3 gables with flat roof between. Each gable part has a light casement windows with single light in centre. The dormer PVC white cladding. The remainder of roof slated with 2 large chimney stacks at each end of ridge. Over the left hand ground floor bar window the name of the public house in bold letters without fascia. The house has 2 long back returns. The public house forms part of the terrace between Quay Road and Strandview Road. No. 12 has a higher ridge than those buildings on either side and with the extended dormer is prominent in the terrace.

Probably surviving from the late 18th cent. but most likely altered in succeeding centuries. Its recently 20th cent. alterations and external renovations has removed most of its original character and does not match the description accorded to it in UAHS book, Glens of Antrim.
