Exterior Description And Setting

4 bay wide terrace shop, 2 storeys with gateway. The ground floor a recessed single wide 4 panelled door with plain rectangular fanlight over. On either side narrow pilasters. To the left beyond a plain portion of walling a 4 light shop window with arched heads, low cill, pilasters either side matching those at door. A long name fascia stretching over door and window with moulded frame and cornice with lettering. Adjacent to shop front a segmental arch gateway with minimal keystone. At first floor 4 no. double hung sliding sash 2 pane windows, one centred over doorway and a window centred over gateway. Each window has a moulded painted architrave with cill supported on pair of moulded corbels. Wall smooth rendered and painted. Painted quoins at side of gateway. ½ round metal gutter, natural slated roof, chimney stack at each gable and an additional stack on ridge between shop and gateway. Under the gateway walls are built of stone painted, underside of floor plastered mostly on laths with timber beams exposed. To the rear door and window at basement level, small 2 pane at ground floor and 2 boarded up windows at 1st floor. Wall roughcast rendered unpainted. ½ round metal gutter, natural slated roof. Part of a terrace of 2. The gateway passage gives access to new car park to rear of Ann Street. Each side of access bound by yard walls rendered in roughcast and punctuated with gateways.

Probably a rebuild of former terrace houses and built around the late 19th cent. Repairs were carried out to the property c 1996. The building with No. 3 was possibly built by Dallat, builder, who erected other houses in Ann Street and Quay Road, using similar details. References Primary Sources 1. O.S.
