Exterior Description And Setting

A two-storey gabled building in a terrace, with rendered walls and slated roof. Main entrance faces north. Entrance front: roof of Bangor blue slates in regular courses; modern rooflights; eaves line rakes to one side where there is a canted corner to the building; two chimneys, one on each gable, rendered, with plain block cornices. Wall is smooth cement rendered, with quoining to extremities, and a projecting frieze below the eaves; PVC gutter with cast iron downpipe. Windows are rectangular timber sliding sash, vertically hung, 1 over 1, with horns, set in moulded stucco surrounds with a key-block. Two doorways, each containing a rectangular timber glazed and panelled door, set in similar surrounds to windows. West gable above adjoining house, is smooth rendered; contains a small rectangular blind recessed panel to the attic, set in wooden surround. East gable, above adjoining house, is rendered with a dashed finish; contains a rectangular timber window. Rear elevation: two-storey with roof of synthetic slates in regular courses; modern rooflight; two chimneys, one on each gable, smooth rendered; PVC rainwater goods. Rear wall is rendered with a wet dash; two windows, one to each floor, modern rectangular timber fixed lights with top-hung vent; concrete cills. Rear return gabled: roof, walls, and rainwater goods similar to rear of main block; timber barge boards; rectangular doorway in side of return and two windows in gable of return, one to each floor, large modern timber similar character to rear of main block. SETTING: The building stands within the built-up area of the village, in the centre of a terrace of three houses, facing along a street lined with terrace houses, with a small pavement directly outside the main doorway. To the rear is a small concrete yard shared with 10-12 Bridge Street which owns an open shelter, brick gabled, with corrugated iron roof, attached to the end of the rear return; basalt rubble boundary wall, partly rendered, to rear yard.

Precise date of building not known but it appears on the OS map of 1857; a building is shown on part of the site on the OS map of 1832, but the present façade probably dates from the mid-19th century.
