Exterior Description And Setting


A long two storey slated barn in coursed basalt with brick jambs and lintels to most openings. Located perpendicular to Seacoast Road near Bellarena Station. Adjoining former Post Office and Weigh Bridge (HB02/09/009A). Main axis north west to south east. Gable to road with wide match boarded garage door and concrete lintel. Three low level casement windows to north east side, one high level casement at south east end of elevation. Projecting dormer for hoist at mid point. Blockwork barn with tin roof abutting south east gable. Four match boarded timber doors to south west side. Those at ends with window aligning above. Roof slatework clearly divides building into three different bays as there are three different colours sharply divided.

Historical Information


Part of the general store constructed by the Bellarena Estate including HB02/09/009A next door. Operated by Mr Leeke MP for the area until his family went bankrupt 32 years ago. Barn formerly stretched much further to the south east. Allen family have owned the building since buying it from the Leekes, and use it as part of their farm and for general storage. Evaluation


A fine simple barn building, important for its former use as a general store in conjunction with the building adjoining. It adds to the character of the buildings around Bellarena Station.
