Exterior Description And Setting

A single storey, three-bay, lobby entry house with central hearth. The hipped roof is thatched and a small corbelled chimneystack serves the kitchen hearth. The external finish is of rough plaster. The house that faces south-west occupies a roadside position about three miles from Blacklion travelling north-west to meet the road from Derrylin to Enniskillen. The entrance door of modern sheeted construction, with a glazed panel in the upper part, is flanked on either side by a plain glazed vertically sliding sash window with curved sash stops and deep stone sills. The gable walls are blank without fenestration. The rear elevation contains a modern timber door with a square glazed panel above two over two vertical panels. A window to the right (north-west) is similar in appearance to those at the front. Support at the rear is provided by two large buttresses.

The house, with an outbuilding to the north, appears in existing form on the OS map of 1834 and on the OS revision of 1857 It was the home of a Mr Bowles who was a gamekeeper employed by the Florencecourt Estate.
