Exterior Description And Setting

A store building of 2 different roof levels, stone built with slated roofs and part of the terrace on each side. A 2 bay wide storage building of 2 different heights, that to the east has a central wide square headed gateway. While that to the west has a central sheeted narrow door with small window to one side. These 2 openings are partially brick trimmed. Walls are built of coursed, roughly squared white limestone with small openings/vents left under eaves of higher building. Natural slated roofs.

Historical Information

A single storey store/garage building part of terrace of artisan houses fronting onto Market Street and part of the 2nd Market project carried out by the Draper’s Company. On the map accompanying the Deputation’s report of 1839, no building is indicated on this part of site, nor is one shown on the O.S. Map of 1856. It is a later infill but carried out in matching stonework. One half of the higher building is used as a garage by the owner of No. 13 High Street. References Primary Sources 1. O.S. A 2 bay wide single storey store of the mid 19th cent built as a piece of infill to the large market and corn store complex of couple of decades earlier. Built in sympathy with the adjoining houses.
