Historical Information

Glenbrook House was built by Samuel Jackson Cassidy (1807-43) and his wife Esther Wiliamson (Scott) Cassidy (1807-37) between c.1834 and c.1836, the OS Memoirs of the latter year commenting that it had been constructed ‘within the last 2 years’. The designer of the house is not known. Samuel Jackson Cassidy died childless, and Glenbrook passed to his younger brother, Francis Peter Cassidy (1810-79 - sometimes written Cassidi). His son, Dr. Francis Richard Cassidi (1858-1939) was the next owner, followed by his son, Dr. Francis Laird Cassidi (1889-1963). The latter’s son, Dr. Francis Paul Cassidi, appears to have retained the property until his death in 1989, although it was rented out at least for a time in the 1970s and may have remained vacant during much of the 1990s / early 2000s. The building was extensively refurbed in 2013. References - Primary sources 1 OS maps, 6in County series, Co. Londonderry sheet 42 - 1830, 1850-54, 1905-06 2 OS Memoirs, Parish of Magherafelt - 1836
