Exterior Description And Setting

Small, plain end of terrace shop, originally a house built c.1840-50 and belonging to a short terrace of three contemporary properties. The shop is set on the north west side of Main Street, Greyabbey, and is entered on the gable. To the right on the ground floor of the SW gable is the entrance doorway, which consists of a partly glazed door with plain painted stone surround. Timber shop sign board above door. The gable (which faces into a small pedestrian lane), merges with a single storey [flat roof or lean to] extension which has been added to left (i.e. to the rear of the building). There is a recent partly glazed door to the right hand side of the SW face of the extension. The SE facade (which faces into Main Street) has a Georgian-paned sash window (6/6), to the ground floor with a similar but shorter window directly above to first floor (6/3). Both windows have narrow plain surrounds. Timber shop sign boards to left of windows. The rear of this house appears to consist of the aforementioned single storey extension, with a small modern fixed light window to the first floor of the main building. The whole facade is to be finished in painted roughcast. The gabled roof is slated. Small rendered chimney stack to the gable end. Cast iron gutters and down spouts.
