Exterior Description And Setting

First Survey description: 8thApril 1970 'Later 19th century. A two-storey building with rendered walls and slated roof. Double hung windows with cross glazing bars are set in moulded three-centre arched openings. The entrance is flanked by panelled pilasters rising to a moulded archivolt and faceted keystone. The door is flanked by sidelights, the elipticaql-arched fanlight is glazed with radial glazing bars. Three windows wide.' Second Survey description: Original manse replaced with a new manse designed in a classical style.

Historical Information

The original manse is first shown on the OS map of 1902. Griffith's Valuation of 1860 records a manse, which is noted as being ‘in progress’ at the time of the valuation. The occupier is the Rev. James Warwick, and leased from the trustees. The manse and attendant office is valued at £17 50s. A note at the side reads ‘no offices yet’. The Presbyterian history society website claims that the manse was built in 1859. Valuation Revisions dating from 1894 onwards shows the occupier as the Rev. Samuel B. Stewart, held ‘in fee’. It details a Presbyterian Church House, office and yard, now valued at £20 50s. The manse was demolished c.2000 and a new manse constructed thirty feet to the north. References: Primary Sources 1.
