Evaluation

A carefully designed, late eighteenth century, whinstone hump backed bridge of good proportion which spans the Burntollet river with a single semi-circular arch. Though associated with a 1969 incident linked to the start of the ‘Troubles’, that event took place mainly in front of the bridge on ground destroyed by subsequent road works. The structure will be removed in the near future as part of further road works to dual the road connecting Northern Ireland’s two largest cities.
