Exterior Description And Setting

A large collection of outbuildings adjacent to formal two-storey plus attic semidetached late Georgian house. Most of the larger structures to the South are mainly late 20th century (or earlier but much altered) and of no interest, but those to the East are older and of particular note are those closest to the house. Linked together to form an irregular plan, these consist of an L-shaped two-storey gabled structure, whose South section (lying roughly on an E-W axis) is built in brick and has a tall square chimney to its West-facing gable, and whose North section is rubble-built and probably older. To the North end of the latter, set at an angle, is a lower rubble-built block of roughly square plan and has a broad North-facing gable with a bellcote.

Evaluation

The outbuildings have seen substantial changes to its openings with many removed and bricked up. Furthermore, the key interest of the outbuildings at 18-20 Orken Lane stems from the group collective with HB14 08 015A and HB14 08 015B. Due to its own alterations and significant replacements of the 2 adjacent records, the record had lost its merit as a potential listing.
