Exterior Description And Setting

This two-span masonry arch bridge carries the Dromore Road over the River Lagan. It is of random rubble construction throughout, without any embellishments. Both arches are of segmental profile, with split stone voussoirs. The west arch is the main one, being both substantially higher and wider than the east one. There is no cutwater to the pier, either upstream or down. Metal tie bars have been inserted through the spandrels of the main arch. The deck caries a two-lane road.

Evaluation

A two-span masonry, late 18th century, arch bridge of random rubble construction, which carries the Dromore Road over the River Lagan. With both arches of segmental profile and split stone voussoirs, the west arch is substantially higher and wider than the east one creating a curved deck, which adds interest. Largely unaltered, the bridge it a good example of the type, retains its rural setting and is of local interest.
