Exterior Description And Setting


The structure has been demolished and the site cleared. The site now houses a park and wind turbine. The First Survey card records: ‘Tomb built into rocky mound with field rubble walls, flat arch entrance recess to E & flat curved roof rendered over. Above bricked-up inner entrance is inscription "The Tomb of William Nicholson Esq. - 30 Jan. 1792". Recent white marble slab on S. wall of entrance records "Wm. W. Steele-Nicholson Born 1772 - Died 1840" & other members of family up to recent times. Tomb appears as "Mausoleum" on O.S. Map of 1833. Date of visit: 13/12/73'
