Exterior Description And Setting

A ruinous single storey / single room octagonal garden house situated on the N bank of the River Finn in the orchard of Knockballymore House (HB12/01/001A). Formerly with annexe to N (now gone). Roof was natural slate (octagonal in form) but has now collapsed. Walls are rough-coursed rubble stone. All openings have brick dressings and cills are stone. N elevation contains a t+g sheeted door. Facing NE and SE respectively are two fixed pane Gothic-headed windows with decorative geometric glazing. All other elevations are blank.

Shown on the 1834 OS 6” map and subsequent editions. Probably erected shortly after the erection of the main house by the Earl of Erne for his agent about 1740. Primary sources: 1. An unusual eighteenth century garden house pleasantly situated on the N bank of the River Finn in the orchard of Knockballymore House Although ruinous, the building retains a degree of character, and possesses interesting window glazing. It has group value wih the listed Knockballymore House (HB12/01/001A) and its Stableyard (HB12/01/001B).
