Exterior Description And Setting

A detached two-bay two-storey stone house, built c.1850, located on the west of Glenmacoffer Road, Omagh. Rectangular on plan, facing north, lean-to windbreaker porch to front. Pitched natural slate roof, blue/black clay angled ridge tiles, rendered chimneystacks at gables, no rainwater goods. Walling is coursed random rubble stone with traces of lime render. Windows are square-headed timber 2/2 sliding sashes. Principal (north) elevation is symmetrical and abutted to centre by a windbreaker porch; exposed section is lime rendered with a single window to each floor at each end flanking porch (first floor windows are 1/1 sliding sashes). Porch is detailed as principal elevation (missing door), internal reveals are smooth rendered. East gables is blank. Rear (south) elevation has variety of windows. West gable is blank. Setting:- The house is situated on sloping grassy ground off a rural access road with scattered mature trees located throughout; there is a single-cell double-height stone granary with a pitched roof, detailed as house. Historical Information

The house first appears on the second edition OS map of 1854. By the third edition it appears to have been extended to the west and an outbuilding has appeared to the north. In Griffith’s Valuation the house is listed as occupied by Thomas McKee and leased from Major A W C Hamilton. It is valued at £1. The McKees remain the occupiers throughout the period covered by Annual Revisions (1860-1929). Hugh McKee becomes the owner in fee in 1909. References Primary Sources 1.
