Exterior Description And Setting

A detached single-storey gable-fronted tin house, built c.1930, located on the south side of Glenpark Road, Omagh. Rectangular on plan, facing north; return to west, hipped open porch to inward angle north of return. Pitched corrugated metal roof, metal ridge and hip caps, painted timber bargeboards and box eaves, rendered chimneystack with cornice over return ridge, half-round painted cast-iron gutters. Walling is painted corrugated metal sheeting over concrete foundational plinth. Windows are square-headed painted timber casements. Principal (north) gable has a flat-headed canted oriel of painted timber with a moulded cornice and sill supported on a single bracket. East elevation has a single window at left end. Rear (south) gable is blank. West elevation is abutted to right end by return (with perpendicular ridge) and to left end by porch; left end within porch has square-headed painted timber panel door. Return gable has two windows; right (rear) cheek has a square-headed painted timber panel door to centre and window to right, left cheek is blank and abutted by porch. Porch has squared painted timber piers. Setting:- The house is situated on lawned grounds with mature trees on a rural road. Historical Information

The building first appears on the fourth edition OS map of 1936-8. It is within the grounds of the former Lislap House, which at the time of the fourth edition was being used as a youth hostel. Annual revisions do not list the building separately from the main house but it is possible that it was first built as a gate lodge (written into the records in 1914). In 1933 valuers give a plan and dimensions for the building which is then occupied by John Collins in fee. In 1937 the surrounding land is taken over by the Ministry of Agriculture for afforestation. A detached single-storey tin house, built c.1930. This simple twentieth-century corrugated iron house is of some interest for the embellishment of its basic simple structure with an oriel and veranda. However, it is late in date and not among the best examples of the type.
