Exterior Description And Setting

Double arched road over rail and river stone bridge, erected c.1850, set on a north/south axis carrying the Carmoney Road North across the Belfast to Antrim Rail line and the Three Mile Water river. Widened and altered c.2007 with the removal of both parapet walls, widened to the west elevation with reinforced concrete, the smaller arch over the river has since been culverted.

Evaluation

The recent works to this bridge have significantly damaged the original fabric and its appearance. The concrete deck has completely obscured the west elevation, while the river arch has been covered over and the river culverted leaving a much altered stone bridge of diminished value.
