Exterior Description And Setting


Description at October 2006: Adjacent house has been demolished but pump remains in tact. Description at June 2005. A cow tailed closed head lever pump with a plain shaped spirally decorated column and a fluted cap with an acorn finial. It is inscribed T A Shillington and Son, Portadown around the head. It is located at the front door of the farmhouse.

Historical Information


Local informant stated that it was installed by Mr Joe Harvey in 1921. Further particulars in the EHS Report 'Water Pumps in Northern Ireland : A Preliminary Survey' by Fred Hammond, January 1997, Pump no 27. House was demolished following the erection of replacement dwelling between 1995 and 2006.

Evaluation


Good example of a cow tail pump with inscription intact. It has now largely lost its context as the house it served has been demolished.
