Exterior Description And Setting

A cow tail closed head lever pump with a plain shaped spirally decorated column and a fluted cap with an acorn finial. It is located at the back of the farmhouse.

This pump is not shown on any of the OS maps but a different one is shown at the front of the house on the 1905 OS 25 inch map ( PRONI ref OS 10/5/37/6/1). Little beyond the brass bucket barrel survives of this earlier pump. According to the owner the rear pump was installed second hand in the 1950's and used until the inception of the water mains in 1963. A cow tailed pump that is in its original position at the rear of a farmhouse. It is an important reminder of the time when drinking water was only available from wells.
