Exterior Description And Setting

A single-arched masonry bridge carrying a public road over a former railway track. It is aligned approximately north to south. Built of snecked basalt rubble with an elliptical archway of shaped limestone voussoirs and a limestone vault. Abutments project forward to each side of the archway on both faces, with raking profile, of snecked basalt rubble and rough basalt rubble copings; copings now missing from southern abutment on west face. Humped carriageway. SETTING: The bridge stands in a rural area with fields to each side; railway track removed.

Built to carry a public road over the Portadown, Dungannon and Omagh branch line of the Great Northern Railway which was opened in 1858, probably to the designs of their engineer at the time, John Godwin. This is an example of Victorian bridge engineering in stone built to carry a public road over the Portadown, Dungannon and Omagh branch line of the Great Northern Railway which was opened in 1858, probably to the designs of their engineer at the time, John Godwin.
