Exterior Description And Setting


Dilapidated remains of a small single storey vernacular cottage of possible mid 19th century construction, set on the shores of Strangford Lough roughly a mile N of Portaferry. Central door and two window openings on the front W elevation displaying remnants of timber frames, with a further window opening to the far left now almost completely obscured by greenery. Remains of small lean to garage to south gable. Rear has window opening to left with dilapidated elements of a sliding sash and case frame and small pebbledash render flat roof extension to centre right with remains of modern window frames. Roof of main house no longer has slates with roof structure and laths now open to the elements. Two rendered chimney stacks. Surrounding garden now overgrown. Sign on cottage warning of present dangerous condition of structure. Interior largely exposed to the elements and now completely dilapidated.

A building is shown on this site on the OS map of 1860, but not that of 1834. The property was still occupied when first surveyed in November 1970, but is now (August 1997) totally derelict.
