Exterior Description And Setting

A single storey L-shaped house. Main entrance faces north-east. Roofs slated, with plain timber bargeboards to gables replacing original decorative barges. Walls rendered wet dash on a smooth rendered plinth. Windows are modern rectangular fixed lights with side-hung casements and with top-hung vents. Canted bay to north-east entrance front. One chimney, on rear wall of rear return, replacing original brick chimneys on main block. SETTING: The building stands in a rural area with its side elevation, originally its front elevation, facing the main road, set back slightly behind a flower bed strip. Lawn to entrance front. Tarmac yard to rear.

Historical Information

Precise date of building not recorded but a building is shown in this position on the OS maps of 1834 and 1860, although not marked as a lodge; by the OS map of 1908 the building was marked 'Lodge'. Stylistically, judging by the previous decorative bargeboards, it may be taken to have dated from the mid-19th century. References – Primary Sources 1. OS Map 1860, Co Armagh 8. 2.
