Exterior Description And Setting

Second house from right in a terrace of seven three storey/ two bay late 19th houses on N side of Bridge Street. Pitched natural slate roof with paired corbels to overhanging timber eaves. Single chimney to right end of ridge. Painted brick walls. Front elevation faces S to Bridge Street and is two windows wide to its upper floors. All windows have slightly advanced brick architraves and masonry cills. All windows are 2/2 (horizontally divided) sliding sashes with horns. Ground floor of front elevation has a door at left and a modern single paned shop window to its right (offset on upper floors). The door is panelled and has a pair of timber consoles supporting a small timber canopy. The shop window has a concrete cill a similar set of reproduction corbels and canopy over. Right (E) gable abuts adjacent property (HB14/12/004G). Left (W) gable abuts adjacent property (HB14/12/004E). Rear (N) elevation advanced much further than the previous houses in the terrace (nos109-117). It is red brick and completely abutted to ground floor by an extension that fills rear yard. At first and second floor left are single 6/6 sliding sash windows. At right between ground and first floors (over extension roof) is a 6/6 sliding sash window and there is similar between first and second floors.

Historical Information

UAHS state that this terrace was erected c1840 but it does not appear on the 1862 OS map. Architectural detailing would suggest it was erected in the late 19thC. The HMBB first survey slide shows this building to have modern windows. The HMBB first survey card states that these properties originally had slated roofs, brick walls with contrasting brick dressings to windows.
