Exterior Description And Setting

Third house from right in a terrace of seven three storey/ two bay late 19th houses on N side of Bridge Street. Pitched artificial slate roof with paired corbels to overhanging timber eaves. Single modern brick chimney to right end of ridge. Painted brick walls. Front elevation faces S to Bridge Street and is two windows wide to its upper floors. All windows have slightly advanced painted brick architraves and masonry cills. All windows are 2/2 (horizontally divided) sliding sashes with horns. Ground floor of front elevation has a six panelled door at left and a single window to its right (boarded up). Reproduction door is six panelled with a transom and has a pair of reproduction timber consoles supporting a small timber canopy. Right (E) gable abuts adjacent property (HB14/12/004F). Left (W) gable abuts adjacent property (HB14/12/004D). Rear (N) elevation is red brick and abutted to right by a single storey return. At ground floor left is a 3/1 sliding sash window, directly above to first floor is a 6/1 sash and above it to second floor is a 6/6 sash window. At right between ground and first floors (over extension roof) is a 1/1 sliding sash window and there is similar between first and second floors. Small extension is mono-pitched natural slate roof and rendered walls with door and window on its left cheek. In rear yard, abutting wall to alley is a lean-to shed with corrugated metal roof (of no interest).

Historical Information

UAHS state that this terrace was erected c1840 but it does not appear on the 1862 OS map. Architectural detailing would suggest it was erected in the late 19thC. The HMBB first survey slide shows this building to have modern windows. The HMBB first survey card states that these properties originally had slated roofs, brick walls with contrasting brick dressings to windows.
