Exterior Description And Setting

Left house in a terrace of seven three storey/ two bay late 19th houses on N side of Bridge Street. Pitched artificial slate roof with paired corbels to overhanging timber eaves. Single brick chimney to right end of ridge. Smooth cement rendered front walls. Front elevation faces S to Bridge Street and is two windows wide to its upper floors. All windows are modern central pivot units with fixed bottom transom. Ground floor of front elevation has a door at left and a single window to its right (offset on upper floor). The door is part glazed and modern, with transom over and has a pair of reproduction timber consoles supporting a small timber canopy. Right (E) gable abuts adjacent property. Left (W) gable abuts adjacent property (HB14/12/004B). Rear (N) elevation is smooth cement rendered. It is abutted to ground floor right by a single storey return. Remaining wall at ground floor left has a modern door with glazed side light. Directly above to first and second floors is a single modern window opening. Between ground floor and first floor at right (over extension roof) is a small modern window; above between first and second floors is a three paned modern window in an earlier opening. Rear return has a mono-pitched natural slate roof and cement rendered walls. It has a blank end gable (to alley), its right cheek is yard wall and its left cheek has two modern windows. End of narrow yard is enclosed by a t+g sheeted door.

Historical Information

UAHS state that this terrace was erected c1840 but it does not appear on the 1862 OS map. Architectural detailing would suggest it was erected in the late 19thC. The HMBB first survey slide shows this building to have a modern front door and modern windows. The HMBB first survey card states that these properties originally had slated roofs, brick walls with contrasting brick dressings to windows.
