Exterior Description And Setting

A water-wheel constructed of cast iron and timber, in a derelict condition. SETTING: It stands partly below and partly above ground level beside a path which runs along the northern bank of the Six Mile Water river, in a wooded area reached by a path from an 'office park'.

Historical Information

Precise date of construction not recorded but it appears on the OS map of 1857. The wheel was originally attached to a 2-storey stone-built hipped roofed building which had fallen into a derelict condition by the 1980s and was demolished sometime after 1982. This is a water-wheel in a derelict condition, which was originally part of a 2-storey stone-built mill but the building has now been demolished thus leaving the water-wheel bereft of its original context and setting and its architectural and historic value thereby greatly diminished.
