Exterior Description And Setting

A corner building, 2 bays wide and 3 storeys high on each side with 2 storey adjunct. On the Ann St front, shop front with 2 large windows each 6 panes, pilasters on each side and name fascia extending over windows with cornice, on chamfered corner, entrance door with small framed name fascia over, on return front, 2 large shop windows, each 4 panes, pilasters on each side and name fascia over with cornice. Above the name fascia a stringcourse linking 1st floor cills and continuous with that on No. 51/57 (see HB05/14/014A). At 1st floor 2 no. double hung sliding sash 4 panes windows to Ann St, 1 no. over shop entrance on corner and 1 no. on return front. Over each window an oculus with centre mullion and one over a window on return façade now built-up. ½ round gutter over plain corbel course, roof natural slates and hipped round corner. The adjunct which continues the return front is 2 bays wide, 2 storeys high with 4 panelled entrance door with rectangular fanlight and adouble hung sliding sash 4 pane window. As the ground is falling there are 4 steps up to the door. Centred over ground floor door and window 2 no. double hung sliding sash 4 pane windows. All walls are smooth rendered, painted, plinth. ½ round gutters, downpipe, natural slates to roof, chimney stack on gable of adjunct. There are no openings on gable. No. 59 turns the corner from Ann Street to street leading to bus garage (former station see HB05/14/026), maintains the building line. Obviously No. 59 was an integral part of No. 51/57 when first built.

A corner building, 2 bays wide and 3 storeys high on each side with 2 storey adjunct. An interesting early 20th century building for the manner in which it turns the corner and maintains the architectural character of No. 51/57 (See HB05/14/014A). The 2 storey adjunct fronting onto street leading to former railway station makes a pleasing composition.
