Exterior Description And Setting


A 4 bay wide 2 storey building with shopfront. Elevation to Diamond, ground floor : a segmental arch opening with large single pane display window with fanlight and thick radiating astragals, cill almost at footwalk level. Large display window subdivided into 4 arched vertical panes with panelled entrance door and shallow fanlight. All framed with pilaster with corintian style head on each side and good name fascia over with cornice and painted lettering. Separate door with fanlight to 1st floor. At 1st floor 4 no. 2 over 2 sash windows with moulded architraves, wall smooth rendered, painted with painted rusticated quoins at one side. No. 2 and 3 would appear to read as one building. Painted frieze, ½ round gutter, downpipe shared with No. 3, natural slated roof, chimney stack at each end of ridge, the width between being 3 bays. The building observes its terrace building line.

A building is indicated on this site on O.S. Map 1832. The present building was substantially rebuilt in the 1990s as part of a redevelopment of the corner site with its unlisted neighbour (hb05/13/013)The original first floor openings remain. The former coach arch has been incorporated into the extended building and was formerly gateway to rear of premises. The shopfront has been altered. References Primary Sources 1. O.S.
