Exterior Description And Setting

A single-storey Orange Hall, much altered and recently partially destroyed by fire. It is aligned W-E directly SE of Wattle Bridge. Pitched natural slate roof (now mostly destroyed) with a brick chimney to right gable. Overhanging eaves with timber eaves board and soffit. Plastic rainwater goods. Walls are pebble-dashed over a cement-rendered base course. All windows are top-hung casements with narrow cement-rendered reveals. (All openings are now sheeted with timber or corrugated metal.) Principal elevation faces N. To right of centre is a door. There are three windows; one to its right and two to its left. Left gable has a modern timber sheeted door to centre. Rear elevation is almost completely abutted by a return. The exposed right section of the main block is blank. The return has a monopitched natural slate roof. S face is blank. Right cheek has a t+g-sheeted door to left and a window opening to right. Left cheek has a window at centre. Right gable is blank.

Historical Information

A building is shown here on the 1834 and 1857 OS 6" maps. It is recorded as a dwelling house in the 1862 Valuation. It is explicitly captioned as Wattlebridge Orange Hall on the 1907 edition. There is no indication from the Valuation Revision books as to when exactly it became a hall. Primary sources: 1. OS 6" map 1st edition (1834), Co Fermanagh sheet 43 (PRONI OS 6/4/43/1). 2. Evaluation

A pleasantly located roadside Orange Hall to SE of Wattle Bridge (HB12/02/84). As a result of a fire and a previous refurbishment scheme, it now retains no features of interest.
