Historical Information

Only a quarry is shown on the 1834 OS 6" map. A quarry and three kilns (none of them the present one) are on the 1857 edition. The kiln (and quarry to north) appears on the 1907 map, indicating a later 19th century date. The HMBB survey card dated 30 July 1982 states: "Pair of rubble built kilns, brick lined flues, built into hillside. Approx 15ft high, 25ft long". Primary sources: 1. OS 6" map 1st edition (1834), Co Fermanagh sheet 40 (PRONI OS 6/4/40/1) 2. OS 6" map 2nd edition (1857), Co Fermanagh sheet 40 (PRONI OS 6/4/40/2). 3. OS 6" map 3rd edition (1907), Co Fermanagh sheet 40 (PRONI OS 6/4/40/3). 4. HMBB survey card, 30-7-1982
