Exterior Description And Setting

A single segmental span carries a one-and-a-half lane minor road over a stream. It is of randomly-laid finely-dressed limestone blocks throughout. Each voussoir is embellished with a rusticated keystone. The parapets end in out-projecting piers and are coped with finely dressed sandstone blocks with pitched top face; the pier copings have margined rustication to all faces.

Historical Information

No road is shown on the 1834 OS 6" map. It existed by 1857, and a wooden bridge is explicitly captioned as crossing the stream at this point. An uncaptioned bridge, undoubtedly the present one, is on the 1907 map. It was therefore erected in the later 1800s, probably in the period 1860-79 (or possibly 1880-1899). Primary sources: 1.
