Exterior Description And Setting

The building is now completely ruinous and much overgrown. Aligned roughly E-W and set within a V-junction with garden to front. Principal elevation faces S and is 5 window openings wide; end gables are blank – that to right is abutted by small addition. Rear has a central door opening with a window opening to either side.

Historical Information

The 1835 Ordnance Survey Memoir notes that the school was erected n 1830 “at the expense of the incumbent who gives £4 per annum towards the support of the master”. It is cited as a school house on all three editions of the OS 6” map. The first HMBB survey card of 1983 describes it as a “single storey building with hipped slated roof. Walls roughcast and whitened over rubble and brick. South front has five casement windows, small panes and label mouldings over lintels. Small end porches with shed roof and sheeted entrance doors.
