Exterior Description And Setting

Recently modernised, small, one and a half storey farm house, set on a slight rise to the E of the Ballyglighorn Road, c.2 miles SE of Comber. Front (W) façade is symmetrical and has a central door with sidelights, all now in PVC. Either side of this is a single window with PVC frames. All openings have similar PVC fittings and all window cills are ‘slim’ modern concrete versions. The N gable has a window to the left on the ground floor and two to the upper level. The S gable has two similar upper level windows with ‘French doors’ to the right on the ground floor. To the rear a large full height gabled return (with small single storey flat roofed section to the S) has recently been added, with various sized windows and a door. The entire façade is finished is rough cast with moulded quoins and plain render base (all added recently). The main roof is gabled and covered in natural slate. Slight overhang to eaves with plain barge boards. Two concrete brick chimney stacks. PVC rw goods.

Historical Information

Though the current owner of this property recalled once seeing a date of 1818 inscribed on one of the walls, this house does not appear on the OS maps of 1834 or 1858. A photograph taken when first surveyed in December 1973, shows a symmetrical façade with curved heads to the front sash windows and sidelights to the doorway, all of which (if original) suggests a date of post 1860.
