Exterior Description And Setting

Unremarkable single storey house of probable pre 1834 origin, now completely modernised. The house is set on a rise on the SW side of the Islandview Road, less than a mile SE of the village of Killinchy. Front S facade has a right of centre modern open porch with shallow pitched gabled roof. Within the porch is a timber panelled entrance door. To the left of the door are three modern windows, with a similar window to the right. The E gable has a slightly left of centre modern bow window. The W gable is blank. The rear is in two distinct sections with the left (E) half projecting. This half has two modern windows (of varying size) on either side of a modern glazed door. The right half has two similar windows (also of varying size). The entire facade is finished in rough cast and painted. The roof (which has an uneven pitch to the W side) is covered in pan tiles and has a slight overhang. Single brick chimney in S of roof ridge. The roof of this house has obviously been raised slightly. PVC rw goods. Area around house concreted.

Historical Information

A building matching the site of this house is shown on the OS map of 1834, however, the projecting section is not present, though it is shown on the revised map of 1859-60. The thatch was removed in recent times (c.1980s) and the house ‘modernised’. The valuation returns of 1861 note that the house was at that stage leased by a Matthew Wilson from John Cleland (of Stormont). References- Primary sources 1 PRONI OS maps 1st ed. 1834, Co.
