Exterior Description And Setting


A 2½ storey 3 bay wide terrace house with shopfronts. The elevation to Quay Road, at ground floor, 2 shopfronts with shop doors not completed. At 1st floor 3 no. vertical openings, windows not installed, plain architrave in plaster. Above window opening heads a continuous moulded stringcourse with ogee gutter on top with 4 no. short downpipes from gutters at eaves. 3 no. gabled dormers likewise without windows. Walls smooth rendered and painted. Plaster quoins on each side. Natural slated roof with chimney stacks centred on each gable. The ridge of this pair of houses much higher than adjacent buildings. The building observes the building line of Quay Road, but has wide paved area in front without boundary wall. The building is presently having extensive renovations.

Evaluation


A late 19th cent. 2½ storey building with 2 shopfronts with typical dormers of the area. Building work unfinished. Though not considered to be a special structure it does contribute to the character of the Conservation Area.
